DA LIU REN · A GUIDE TO THE MATTER

Understand the situation before choosing your next step

A collaboration is unsettled. A role is changing. An important conversation is waiting. Da Liu Ren begins with one concrete question and its casting time. The Four Lessons frame relationships; the Three Transmissions provide a sequence for interpretation. Read these structures alongside what you actually know about the situation.

A classical system with a traceable structure

Da Liu Ren is traditionally grouped with Tai Yi and Qi Men Dun Jia as the Three Styles. Liu Ren Da Quan discusses its system and differing conventions. The Xin Yin Fu and commentary in volume one of Liu Ren Zhi Nan describe important foundations, including the monthly general, stem lodging, Four Lessons and transmission methods. This calculator uses Da Liu Ren, not the simplified Xiao Liu Ren method or Jin Kou Jue. Guanyitang presents calculation evidence separately from interpretation, so you can distinguish how a chart was formed from what a reading suggests about your question.

A useful reading starts with a focused question

Describe one matter, the choice you face and what has already happened. Add relevant roles, agreements or constraints as background. You do not need to guess another person's motives or supply birth details for this casting flow.

Too broad

Will my career go well in the future?

More useful

I am considering a collaboration, but we have not agreed on responsibilities. What should I clarify before deciding whether to join?

From your question to the chart

Once confirmed, your question and casting time stay together. Returning to the record, reading its report or discussing it with Guanfu uses that same original.

  1. Describe the matter

Name the event and the choice you face. For a collaboration, include the roles and any agreement already reached. For work, explain the arrangement and what remains uncertain.

  2. Confirm the time

Use the moment you first submit, or choose a supported date and time. Signing in or retrying the same request preserves the confirmed casting time.

  3. Explore the structure

Check the day signs, monthly general and hour, then the Four Lessons and Three Transmissions. Open the derivation to follow the steps used for this particular chart.

  4. Read and consider action

The five chapters connect the chart to the situation, participants, development, obstacles and action. Open a chart target or select report text to continue with Guanfu.

Four structures, one connected chart

Each part has a different job. The plates establish positions, the lessons frame relationships, the transmissions order the reading, and the generals add symbolic context. Their meaning depends on how they work together.

Heaven & Earth plates

The twelve Earth positions are fixed. The Heaven plate is arranged by placing the monthly general over the casting hour. Separate labels make the moving sign and its underlying position distinguishable.

Start by distinguishing Heaven from Earth, then locate the transmissions.

Four Lessons

The lessons are derived from the day stem, day branch and their upper signs. The first pair relates to the stem; the second to the branch. The roles of self, counterpart or subject depend on your actual question.

Read the upper and lower signs, general and relation. A hidden layer is not proof of someone's private thoughts.

Three Transmissions

The initial transmission starts the sequence; the middle and final transmissions follow the applicable method. Hidden stems, kin relations, generals and supported markers add context to each stage.

Follow the opening, transition and destination. Stage order alone does not specify calendar dates.

Twelve Heavenly Generals

Names such as Noble One, Azure Dragon and Vermilion Bird carry symbolic associations. Position, elemental relationships and the matter being asked about shape their interpretation.

A general's name alone cannot establish a person's intentions or an inevitable outcome.

Bring a question you can act on

Different questions call for different points of attention. These examples help frame a casting; they are not advance predictions for an uncast chart.

01

Collaboration & projects

A focused question
We have not settled the responsibilities. What should I clarify first?
What to examine
Use the lessons to frame each side's conditions and the transmissions to examine stages of progress. Relate the reading to verifiable responsibilities, deliverables and acceptance criteria.
02

Work & changing roles

A focused question
What should I find out before accepting this new arrangement?
What to examine
Distinguish your position from the role or project itself. Known responsibilities, available resources and the decision-maker give the opening and later stages a concrete context.
03

Relationships & conversations

A focused question
How should I open this conversation to make the disagreement clearer?
What to examine
Describe the relationship and specific disagreement. Examine the lesson relationships and generals while treating unspoken motives as questions to clarify, not established facts.
04

Progress & waiting

A focused question
I have submitted the proposal. What should I follow up on now?
What to examine
Follow the opening, process and destination. Keep an agreed deadline, a practical obstacle and a traditional timing indication distinct instead of treating every delay as the same pattern.

How the transmissions are derived

The Nine Methods organize transmission selection. They are not nine interchangeable settings: the applicable conditions determine the path. This is a guide to the traditional system; formal casting remains limited to the rules verified for this version.

Ze Ke · Direct control
Looks for controlling relationships between the upper and lower signs of the lessons.
Bi Yong · Polarity
When several candidates remain, compares their yin–yang relationship to the day stem.
She Hai · Involvement
Resolves remaining candidates using the adopted involvement and comparison convention.
Yao Ke · Remote control
Examines remote control between upper lesson signs and the day stem when direct control is absent.
Mao Xing · Pleiades
Uses the You position and day polarity under its specific no-control conditions.
Bie Ze · Separate selection
Applies a distinct selection rule to particular incomplete-lesson structures.
Ba Zhuan · Eight special
Uses its own transmission method for specific shared stem and branch positions.
Fu Yin · Repetition
When Heaven and Earth coincide, considers control, polarity and applicable punishment or clash rules.
Fan Yin · Reversal
When the plates oppose, distinguishes cases with and without control before selecting transmissions.

Meet the Twelve Heavenly Generals

The monthly general arranges the Heaven plate; the Heavenly Generals are a separate symbolic layer. Learn their names, then return to their positions and the specific question to understand their role.

Five chapters, from situation to action

Begin with the overall situation, examine the participants and the developing process, identify obstacles, and consider what to do next. Each chapter connects to a specific part of the chart above it.

  1. The overall pattern

Read the chart's overall structure and main clues in relation to the original question.

  2. Relationships in the four lessons

Examine the visible conditions of the participants or matter through the stem and branch lessons, then distinguish further yinshen clues from facts still to confirm.

  3. The three-stage progression

Follow the initial, middle and final transmissions to examine continuity and points that need a review.

  4. The role of heavenly generals

Examine the generals and supported relationships in this chart, together with their conditions.

  5. Guanfu's practical counsel

Translate the reading into what to do now, what comes next and what to hold off, with observable checkpoints.

Inner Hall membership: generate all five reading chapters

Keep the original—and the conditions behind the reading

The original question, background, time and chart are saved together. Add outcome notes as the matter develops, or explicitly bring an update to Guanfu. Notes do not rewrite the chart. Derivation explains the calculation; the deep reading interprets it in context. Consider significant actions alongside known facts and real conversations.

Questions about Da Liu Ren

Is Da Liu Ren the same as Xiao Liu Ren?

No. This page uses the Da Liu Ren system of Heaven and Earth plates, Four Lessons, Three Transmissions and Twelve Heavenly Generals. It does not substitute the simplified Xiao Liu Ren method or mix in the separate Jin Kou Jue chart structure.

Do I need my birth date and birth time?

This casting flow uses a concrete question and its casting time, without requiring birth information. Traditional Liu Ren can use additional personal factors, but information that you have not supplied or the system has not calculated is not added to this chart.

What is the difference between casting now and choosing a time?

Casting now uses the moment of your first confirmed submission. Choosing a time uses the supported date and time you enter. Signing in, retrying or restoring the original does not substitute a new current time.

Which dates and time zones are supported?

This version supports 2020–2027, the Asia/Shanghai time zone and whole minutes. From 23:00 it uses the next sexagenary day while preserving your original timestamp. It excludes the interval within one minute either side of a published principal solar-term boundary, and transmission rules outside this version's scope. Unsupported input is explained rather than silently moved to another time.

Does the transmission derivation tell me the outcome?

The derivation shows the deterministic steps that selected the transmissions for this chart. Their interpretation for your question belongs in the Development chapter. A calculation step is not, by itself, a claim about a real-world outcome.

Does the deep reading require membership?

The chart and transmission method are free to view. Inner Hall members can generate all five chapters: the overall situation, participants, development, obstacles and support, and action. Previously acquired reports remain readable after membership expires.

Should I cast again when the matter develops?

For the same matter, you can restore the original, add outcome notes and discuss the new facts with Guanfu. If you decide a fresh casting is needed, choose New casting explicitly. Retrying an earlier request continues its original time instead of automatically making a new chart.

How should I choose between Da Liu Ren, Ba Zi, Liu Yao and Qi Men?

Start with the scale of the question. Ba Zi addresses longer-term life themes; Da Liu Ren, Liu Yao and Qi Men offer distinct structures for concrete matters. Da Liu Ren emphasizes lesson relationships and transmission development. Each method has its own assumptions; repeatedly switching tools to obtain a preferred answer does not resolve uncertainty.
